Extra Innings

Several VHS players have extended their baseball season by playing on summer select teams.
  • Senior Micah Deibell pitched his way to the Junior Olympic tryouts at the Seattle Mariner training facility in Peoria, Arizona with his fellow teammates on the Northwest Timberjacks club. Deibell had two solid outings against the Rocky Mountain Blue and Zona Baseball teams. He shut down the Rocky Mountain team through 4 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out five batters. On his second mound appearance, after walking 2 batters & giving up 3 earned runs, Deibell rallied back against the Zona club and cooled their bats.
  • Pirate Senior Chris Allman played with the Narrows Baseball Club for the third straight year. The team completed its season at the U.S. Amateur Baseball Federation Senior World Series in San Diego, where Allman had a stellar performance at right field and on the mound. He collected 9 hits during the tournament, including a two-run triple. He was the winning pitcher on his second appearance on the mound, and helped pitch the Narrows team into the finals. Allman is currently playing Fall Ball with Narrows and has been invited to join their 18U team for the 2008 season.
  • Senior Pirate Catcher Tom Schumaker played with the Cascade Generals team, who ended their season by traveling to Marietta, Georgia to compete in the World Wood Bat Association 17U National Championship. Schumaker finished his team's summer season with a .393 batting average.
Pirate Junior Chris Pieterick and Senior Justin Calhoun chose to stay in shape for the summer by playing basketball non-stop in the Vashon summer league. The team's 6-3 record at the Central Washington Team Camp is the best ever for a Vashon team, and the team had another impressive 4-2 record at the Seattle Pacific Tournament.
