Pirates Win With Hot Bats And Good Pitching

Vashon defeated the Tarriers from Charles Wright on 3/19 at the Pirate home field by a score of 10-2. Chris Pieterick started on the mound and went the distance for the Pirates allowing only four hits, no walks, and striking out six opposing batters. Charles Wright did score single runs in the first and second innings, but after that Pieterick was in complete control. And, in addition to pitching a great game, he was also one of the hitting stars of the day going 3 for 4 with a double and a solo home run. Also, enjoying a multiple hit day was Micah Deibell, who was 2 for 2 with a single and a solo home run as well. Rounding out the Pirate nine hit attack with singles were Adam Powelson, Tom Schumaker, Nathan Ott, and Justin Calhoun. Vashon scored runs in all five innings of the rain shortened affair. The defensive gem of the day went to Wes Paulsen at third who made a nice stop of a smoking grounder and threw out the runner at first. The Pirate lineup looked like this: Pieterick (P), Powelson (rf), Chris Allman (cf), Schumaker (c), Ott (1b), Deibell (lf), Calhoun (2b), Paulsen (3b), Joe Gilmore (ss). Reserves were: Peter Johnson, Jake Theno, and Ryan Johnson. Vashon is now 1-1 in League play and 2-1 overall. Next game is a non-league game on Saturday (3/22) at Shelton. Game time is 1pm. See you there.
