Season end

The VHS Pirate baseball team closed their season on a positive note with a win last Friday against the Life Christian Eagles. Playing in Tacoma, the Pirates put together 11 hits and played error-free ball for the 17-1 victory.

Pirate Ryan Anderson, in his first varsity start, proved to be the star of the game. Anderson went 3 for 3, with 3 doubles and two steals.

Tyler Bernheisel took the mound and looked sharp for the Pirates. He staked Vashon to a 12-0 lead through 3 innings. He was relieved by Matt Amick who added two solid innings of relief in closing out the mercy-rule-shortened 5 inning game. Amick also went 3 for 5 with two doubles. Rounding out the Pirate heavy hitters was catcher Peter Johnson who was 3 for 4, also with two doubles.

In their final home game on Monday, April 27th, the Pirates lost to the Seattle Christian Warriors. Bernheisel started that game and pitched a scoreless game through 5 before turning the pitching duties over to Chris Pieterick. Pieterick gave up 7 runs in the sixth inning of the 8-6 Pirate loss. Pieterick and Peter Johnson each went 3 for 3 from the plate in the game.

The Pirates finished the season at fifth place in the 1A/2B Nisqually League with a 5-7 league record and 6-8 overall. They have a solid core of experienced underclassmen returning next season.
