JV Pirates Defeat Sequim 6-5

With Mother Nature finally cooperating the JV Pirates baseball team hits the field. Matt Amick is on the mound, Geran Webb behind the plate, Wes Paulsen at Third, Joe Gilmour at Short, Ryan Johnson at Second, Nathan Ott at First, Kyle Martin in Left, Adam Powelson in Center, Robert McGinnis in Right.
The first two innings are quick and scoreless. Amick keeps the Sequim 9 off balance with an array of hard stuff and breaking balls. Paulsen gets a heads up double play.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Webb gets aboard with the help of the “sun”. Paulsen bloops one over the pitcher for an infield hit and it’s runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Powelsen makes it to first with aggressive baserunning on a drop third strike. The throw goes to first and Webb scores. It’s 1-0 Pirates.
Top of 3, the Wolves get their first run with a walk and a couple singles. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, the Pirates need a break and they get one with an infield pop out to end the inning.
Bottom of 4, Amick starts it off with a lined single to Left Center. Webb singles and Martin follows with another single and the sacks are full of Pirates. Webb scores on the next hit. Ott steps up and drills a shot down the left field line scoring 2 to give the home 9 a 5-2 lead.
Webb takes the mound. The Wolves put on the heat tying it up over the next few innings setting up a pressure packed bottom of the 7th. Amick steps into the box, takes a 0-1 pitch lining it over the center fielders head for a double and the winning run is in scoring position. Webb taters a shot deep to left center. The ball meets the grass before the leather, Amick takes off from second, running as if from a bear in the woods. With the fans cheering on their feet anticipating a close play at home and Coach Adam doing his Dutch Wind Mill impression, Amick lays out a headfirst slide and touches home with his left hand, giving the Pirate JV 9 a well deserved home win!
