Pirates Back On Winning Track

The Pirate Varsity broke back into the winning column yesterday with an inspired win over the Fife Trojans, 9-4. Fife took the lead early scoring three runs in the first inning. However, Vashon fought back putting up three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Allman started the two out, bases empty rally with the first of three hits he would get this day. Allman was three for four with a double and two runs batted in. Adding to the hitting attack was Lester Gannaw who went two for two and Eric Anderson who was two for four. Chris Pieterick, Ben Hanusa, and Max Bean all had hits as well. Micah Deibell started on the mound for the Pirates and pitched six innings, striking out six and walking two. Anderson closed out the game with a one-two-three seventh inning. Out on the base paths the Pirate running game was on display as Pieterick, Anderson, Justin Calhoun, and Adam Powelson all had stolen bases. Vashon also turned in some nice defensive plays. Bean made a nifty stop at second base and Gannaw made several good plays over at first. The Pirates had 9 runs, 10 hits, and 3 errors, while the visitors from Fife had 4 runs, 9 hits, and 3 errors. Next up for Vashon is a road game today against Life Christian.
