Pirates Come Up Short In Loss To Sequim

The Pirate Varsity lost 9-7 to the visiting Wolves of Sequim on Saturday (4/14). This was the first game of a doubleheader, with the second game matching the JV teams from each school. The games were played on a cool and breezy, but mostly sunny, afternoon.
A wonderful potluck was provided between games courtesy of the Pirate parents. Lester Gannaw started on the mound for Vashon and pitched the first two innings. Chris Allman pitched the third inning. Both pitchers would struggle this day. Chris Pieterick pitched the final four innings for the Pirates striking out five and allowing only a couple of hits. Allman led the Vashon offense going 2 for 3 including an RBI double that barely missed being a home run. Max Bean had two singles and Justin Calhoun and Tom Schumaker each added a single for the Pirates. Vashon was down early in the game, 8-2, but fought back and made things interesting by scoring five runs in the late innings. Next up for the Varsity is a home game on 4/16 against Charles Wright. All of the remaining encounters are league games, so come out and support your Pirates.
