Pirates Win

On Wednesday (4/16) Mother Nature finally presented the Pacific NW with some beautiful sunny weather, and as luck would have it, Vashon had a baseball game to play. The Pirates traveled to Puyallup to take on the Cougars of Cascade Christian HS in a key league match up. The Cougars had won the first game between these teams 2-0. On this day, however, the Pirates would prevail 8-1. Micah Deibell started on the mound for Vashon and was a little shakey the first two innings with control problems. He managed to escape a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first allowing no runs and by the third he had settled into his normal pitching routine. He left the game in the sixth with an 8-0 lead having given up only three hits on the day. Chris Pieterick came in to relieve and finished out the last two innings. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third, although Vashon had left the bases loaded in the second. The Pirates batted around in the third and took a 3-0 lead. The hitting attack was led by Chris Allman who was 2 for 3 and Justin Calhoun who was 2 for 4 with a two run double. Adding to the offensive fireworks was Deibell who hit his third homerun of the season and Matt Amick who added a two run homerun blast of his own. Vashon now has seven roundtrippers on the year. The Pirate starting lineup looked like this: Chris Pieterick (ss), Micah Deibell (p), Chris Allman (cf), Tom Schumaker (c), Justin Calhoun (2b), Matt Amick (rf), Nathan Ott (1b), Wes Paulsen (3b), Adam Powelson (lf). The linescore for the game: Vashon 8 runs, 6 hits, 1 error. Cascade Christian 1 run, 6 hits, 2 errors. The Pirates are now 3-1 in league and 5-2 overall.
