Pirates Fall To Seattle Christian

It was an absolutely miserable day to play baseball. It was cold, wet, and windy on Friday (4/18). However, the Pirates and the Warriors from Seattle Christian suited up anyway and went into battle at the Vashon home field. Final score: Warriors 10, Pirates 2. Chris Allman was on the hill for Vashon and struggled with his control in the first inning and gave up a run with a couple of walks. He settled down in the second and pitched three scoreless innings through the fourth. Chris Pieterick hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to knot the score at one, which is where it stayed until the top of the fifth. In that fateful inning control problems visited Allman again and after giving up a run on a walk and single, he served up a two run HR to the next batter and Vashon was suddenly looking at a 4-1 deficit. Allman walked the next two hitters which prompted coach Hall to bring in Matt Amick in relief. The Warriors quickly jumped on Amick with the big blow being a grand slam. After the dust had settled, nine runs had scored in the inning and the Pirates were down 10-1. They would score one more time in the seventh. Wes Paulsen pitched the last two innings for Vashon and prevented any further damages. The Pirates collected eight hits on the day. In addition to Pieterick's HR, Justin Calhoun had three singles, Tom Schumaker added two singles, and Allman and Micah Deibell each had a single. Defensively, Amick made a great diving catch in right field in the third inning and Deibell made a nice grab in deep center later in the game. The Pirate lineup was as follows: Chris Pieterick (ss), Micah Deibell (cf), Chris Allman (p), Tom Schumaker (c), Justin Calhoun (2b), Matt Amick (rf), Nathan Ott (1b), Wes Paulsen (3b), Adam Powelson (lf), Geran Webb (dh). The linescore: Seattle Christian 10 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors Vashon 2 runs, 8 hits, 1 error. Vashon is now 3-2 in league and 5-3 overall. Next up is Charles Wright on the road on Monday (4/21). Game time is 4pm.
