JVs Lose Exhibition Game

The JV Pirates played a five-inning rain shortened game against Chief Sealth on April 1st at Vashon.  The game was expected to be canceled due to rain, but the visiting team was already on a ferry, so an exhibition game was played sans umpires. Pirates thanks go to Ron Kreiger − Vashon Park District's #1 field guy − who did a bang up job to get the field in playable condition.

Erik Powelson and Dustin Corthell had the honors on the mound with Zach Drape behind the plate catching.  Vashon started off by giving up four runs in the top of the first but came back with a couple of their own in the bottom of the inning.  The offensive highlight had to be a nice 300-foot blast to the left centerfield gap by Fletcher Garrison to lead off the bottom of the fifth.

Final score:  Chief Sealth 8 Vashon 4.

Coach Wald's post game comments — "The defense had its ups and downs, but more ups for sure.  I see improvement every game which tells me that they are listening at practice."
