JVs Split Doubleheader

The junior varsity split their doubleheader with Washington High School on Saturday, March 27. The Pirates started out strong in the first game with singles by Ben Reoux and Fletcher Garrison.  A couple of walks and sacrifices later led to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.

Erik Powelson then took the mound for the first of his 5-shutout innings.  After mowing down the first three batters on strikeouts, you knew the Washington HS batters were in for a hard time at the plate.  Powelson finished with 12 strikeouts, no walks, and only 2 bloop singles.

The hitting only got better after the first with 1 in the second, 9 in the third, 1 in the fourth and a couple more for good measure in the fifth.  Final score: Vashon 16, Washington 0.  Reoux 3 runs, 3 hits, Drape 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, Wald 3 sac, 3 RBI, Corthell 3 hits, 2 runs.
The second game began with a Cody Jackson single and a stolen base and RBI single by Colton Alberthal to get the scoring started for the Pirates.  The bottom of the first was a bad sign of things to come though.   The Pirates committed three consecutive errors, which led to two runs for Washington and 2-1 lead.  Vashon tied it with singles by Kelly Sullivan, Anthony Sawyer and Sam Fredrickson but then stranded 3 on base with two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the second, the Pirates had the same problems as the first − too many errors.  The team couldn't score as many runs as they gave up on errors so they ended up on the losing side of a 12-2 score in 5 innings.
