Pirates Crush Life Christian

On Friday March 26, Vashon’s Varsity baseball team ran their record to 5 and 2  with a 17-0 shutout of Life Christian Academy at Tacoma’s South End Recreation Center.  Pirate hitters continued their hot bats, scoring five runs in the first inning, which included a key two-RBI single delivered by Senior Phillip Moyer.

Pirate starting pitcher Sophomore Julian Smith had his best J_Smith_Life ChristianBlog_032610outing of the year, pitching five shut-out innings and holding the Eagles to just three hits.  Smith was aided by a strong Pirate defense, which included a momentum stopping running catch by right fielder Moyer to end the first.

Pirate hitters added three runs in the top of the 2nd and five in the 4th − again, with a key hit delivered by Moyer who pounded a hard line drive to center field to drive in two Pirates.  Smith continued his dominance of the Eagle hitters in the bottom of the 4th and in the top of the 5th, the Pirates added five more runs. The game ended in the bottom of the 5th as the Pirates were ahead by more than 10 runs.

Additional game highlights included Junior catcher Peter Johnson with a 3 for 4 night, Senior Fletcher Garrison with a line drive two RBI single in the 5th, and Senior first baseman Ryan Johnson with a two RBI double down the left field line.

The Pirate’s next two games are away against non-league Steilacoom on Monday March 29, followed by a key league game against a strong Cascade Christian team on Wednesday March 31.
