A Victory for the Short-handed JVs

The Vashon JV team traveled to Orting on March 24 and came away with a great 11−8 victory!  “With only 9 players eligible, I had to do a little lineup magic,” said Coach Joe Wald, “and the team performed well with only 2 errors!”

Orting went up 1-0 in the first after the Pirates stranded a man at third to start the game.  Vashon settled down in the top of the second and batted around, scoring 5 runs on 5 walks and 3 hits.  Orting got one back in the bottom of the second, but stranded 3.

The Pirates got three more in the top of the third on some awesome base running by Ben Reoux, Jordan Lopez and Cody Jackson, who had 4 steals.  Two more Pirate runs in the 5th and one in the 7th were just enough for the win.  Orting kept pecking away at the lead all game but ultimately stranded too many runners (13) on base.

Pitching stats: Reoux (2 innings), Joe Wald (2 1/3 innings), and Sullivan (2 2/3 innings) pitched great in the hostile environment away from the Rock we call home.  Orting had quite a turnout for a JV game.

Offensive stars included Cody Jackson with 3 walks, 3 runs scored, and 1 stolen base; Fletcher Garrison 3-5  with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base; Jordan Lopez with 2 walks and 3 stolen bases; Geoffrey Kraabel 1-2 with 3 walks and 2 runs scored; Joe Wald 1-4 with 2 RBIs, and 1 walk; and Ben Reoux 2-4 with 2 runs scored, and an RBI.

Erik Powelson caught for the first time in over four years and did an excellent job.  He made a great catch on a foul pop with two on and only one out.
