Pirates Defeat Eagles 8-1

The Pirates met the Life Christian Eagles in Nisqually League action for the second time in a week when Vashon traveled to Tacoma on April 29. Joe Wald took the mound for the Pirates and pitched all seven innings for an 8-1 victory.  Wald gave up just one earned run on six hits and struck out five and walked only two.  Commenting on Wald's performance, Coach Hall said "Joe just went right after them today and we couldn't be more proud of the job he did."

Leading the Pirate hitting attack were Julian Smith who hit a towering two-run homerun in the second inning and Tyler Bernheisel who went two for two on the day.  Zack Drape, Matt Dick, Ezra Lacina, Erik Powelson, Ben Reoux, and Wald all contributed hits to the cause as well.

Line score:  Vashon 8 Runs, 9 Hits, 1 Error  Life Christian 1 Run, 6 Hits, 1 Error.

At game’s end, Coach Hall took time to point out what a great job Freshman Ezra Lacina did behind the plate in both games this week giving all-league starter Peter Johnson a rest heading into what is going to be a grueling four-game week.

After playing Orting on May 3, the team will be battling Seattle Christian, Chimacum, and Cascade Christian on consecutive days.  Playoffs will be on May 11 and May 14 to see who qualifies to advance to state.  The Pirates record now stands at 5-3 in league play and 6-5 overall.
