Pirates Fall to Perfect Game

Due to multiple rainouts, Vashon played a rare Saturday league game against the Charles Wright Tarriers on April 21st at Jim Martin Field.  The Pirates lost the game 15-0.  And, oh by the way, Tarrier pitcher Sam Gaume threw a five inning perfect game against the home team.  No hits, no runs, no walks.  Fifteen up and fifteen down.  Starting on the mound for the Pirates was Joe Wald.  He was relieved by Michael Bernheisel in the fourth and Ben Reoux pitched the final inning.  The trio combined allowed ten hits, eight walks, and seven earned runs.  The remaining runs were the result of seven Pirate errors.  There were, of course, no hitting highlights. Coach Hall remarked on the game:  "Tip your cap to Gaume who pitched a beautiful game. We hit a lot of first pitches and didn't really make him work too much.  Joe Wald pitched a great game but unfortunately the defense didn't show up to play".
Vashon falls to 1-5 in league and 1-7 overall.  Next up is Chimacum!  The line score:  Charles Wright 15 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors   Vashon 0 runs, 0 hits, 7 errors.
