Pirates Top Warriors 9-3

The Pirates welcomed Seattle Christian to Jim Martin Field on May 2 for their second meeting of the season.  As in the earlier matchup between the teams, the Pirates came away with the victory.  Vashon went on top early with a 4-0 lead after two innings.  However, the Warriors chipped away and cut the lead to 4-3 through five frames.  The Pirates responded with a five spot in the bottom of the sixth and put the game away.  Josh Myer pitched a complete game and got the win for Vashon.  He scattered ten hits over the seven innings, allowing just three earned runs.  Myer had three strikeouts and gave up only one base on balls.

Offensively, Zack Drape led the way going 2 for 3 with a double and a triple.  Ben Reoux and Kelly Sullivan both added doubles as well.  Rounding out the hitting attack with a single apiece were Joe Wald and Erik Powelson.  Defensively, the Pirates played error free in the field.

Coach Hall commented after the game: “The boys played an all around good game with no mental or physical errors on the field. I was happy for stand out freshman Josh Myer getting his first win. He has been incredible all year with a 2.74 ERA and deserves to have a few more wins. This one wasn't easy for him as they put up 10 hits, but he just keeps battling and battling. He's a winner!! Zack Drape had a great day with his bat with a double and triple, and has been very solid in the leadoff spot for us. Zack has been a real leader and his all league play in centerfield has been fun to watch as opponents think they've hit a ball in the gap and they are going to get a double only to see Zack glide easily over and make the catch.  I would also like to commend the play of catcher Ezra Lacina who is doing an outstanding job behind the plate.  He works hard back there and has made big strides. He's also handling the bat well again this season with a lot more pressure hitting 3rd in the lineup this year.”

The line score:  Vashon 9 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors   Seattle Christian 3 runs, 10 hits, 3 errors.

The Pirates are now sporting a modest two game winning streak with their season record now standing at 3-9.
